If there is one thing many of us just love, it’s a good DIY beauty tip. The idea that I can skip the salon or spa and do something in the comfort of my own home is simply too good to pass up. Lately, one of the hottest DIY trends has us going to the grocery store and stocking up on lemons. Yes, lemons have multiple uses beyond the kitchen. Today I am going to share some of my favorite DYI Beauty routines using lemons. These are fun, effective and affordable!

1. Bleaching: One thing that truly bothers me is dark elbows and knees. This skin tends to get rough from everyday activity and many times becomes darker than the rest of our skin, looking almost dirty! To fix this problem and brighten the skin on your elbows and knees, simply cut a lemon in half and rub in on these areas. Of course make sure you have not just shaved your legs, or are going to shave on this day! This may be painful. Doing this at least twice a week will keep your elbows and knees looking radiant and feeling smooth.

2. Treating Blackheads and Brightening Skin: Lemons have antibacterial properties, so they are a great way to treat acne and blackheads. To help clear up your blackheads, simply mix 3 parts fresh lemon juice and one part water or even witch hazel in a spray bottle. Use this as a toner by spraying onto a cotton swab and applying all over your skin. Before you know it you will start to notice your blackheads fading, clearer skin and a fresh and radiant glow. Do make sure you do not spray directly on your face as this may burn your eyes.

3. Lip Exfoliator: Now that everyone is using matte lipsticks, it is more important than ever to make sure your lips are smooth and soft. A simple way to exfoliate your lips at night is to wipe a little fresh lemon juice on your lips and sleep with it on. Wash off your lips in the morning and you will feel they are smoother. The lemon juice helps to exfoliate dead skin, leaving your lips feeling and looking kissably soft. Do not do this if your lips are chapped or cracked!

4. Nail Moisturizer: Mix 2 parts lemon juice and 2 parts coconut oil in a bowl and soak your nails in this solution for 3-5 minutes. This is a great DYI manicure solution to help brighten our nails and nourish our cuticles. The lemon juice will help to take off any yellowing and remove bacteria, while the coconut oil will leave your nails soft and looking beautiful.

Lemons are a great resource for creating easy DIY beauty fixes at home. Their antibacterial properties and natural radiance boosting ability make them the perfect add on to any facial, moisturizer and skincare practice. Try these fun and easy DIY fixes and see results that work and won’t have you paying expensive spa prices.
