When it comes to knowing how to apply face moisturizer, most of us having been doing it all wrong. Moisturizing is a must, but it is also something that takes time. You cannot just wash your face and apply your face up with moisturizer. Before you apply your face moisturizer there a few key steps that make a big difference in how your face feels and looks.
Step one is to cleanse your skin. Whether it be day or night you should clean your skin. Even at night as you sleep, oil builds up in your pores, therefore you should cleanse in the morning as well as at night. Clean skin the very best canvas to apply face moisturizer.
Step two is to neutralize your skin. Our household water tends to be full of metals and other minerals that are truly bad for our skin. Elements such as chlorine and lead found in our household water can cause irregularities in the PH levels of our skin. For this reason, it is important to spray your face with thermal water after you cleanse. Thermal water tends to be full of antioxidants that help to balance skin. I just love to use La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water, it is reasonably priced and helps to refresh my skin throughout the day. After spritzing your skin at least three times with the thermal water, gently dry your skin. I like to use either a tissue or a t-shirt as they are gentle and wont cause friction. The fibers in towels are very rough and simply not gentle on our skin.
Step three is to always apply your face serum before you apply face moisturizer. Think of your serum as a great way to prepare your skin for the moisturizer. Serums are great because they can help to boost radiance, diminish fine lines and hydrate. I am currently obsessed with the serums from Glossier. I have been using the Glossier Super Bounce Serum to help improve my skin’s elasticity during the night and Glossier Super Glow Serum to improve radiance during the day. When applying serum use your fingertips and gently dab on your skin. There is no need to rub, a good serum will instantly absorb into your skin.
Step four is when you finally get to apply your face moisturizer! Yes, the moment we have been waiting for. When choosing the best moisturizer remember that if you have normal to combination skin, a lightweight moisturizer will work great. If you have dry skin you may want to try a rich cream moisturizer. I am currently completely in love with two lightweight moisturizers. I use the Glossier Priming Moisturizer during the day because it is light and leaves my skin soft. At night I use La Mer Perfecting Treatment to help improve elasticity and even skin tone. I have combinations skin, therefore these lightweight formulas work great for my skin. Do keep in mind that when you apply face moisturizer, it is important to warm the formula first with your fingertips. Then gently massage the moisturizer onto your skin working from the middle of your face towards the outside.
Now you are finished! You have learned how to correctly apply your face moisturizer. Application makes a big difference. you will notice that your skin looks more radiant and feels better when you take these extra steps to apply your moisturizer.
