Lip Fillers

lip-fillers

Ok, so about a month ago I went for my usual botox injections and decided to try lip fillers for the first time. This was a truly bold decision as I have heard they are extremely painful and was terrified that my lips would end up looking crazy like a duck.

So after about four hours of numbing cream all over my face, I took the dive and went for the lip fillers. I didn’t want to look like Angelina Jolie, as much as I love her I think that would be too much for me. All I wanted was a little more fullness, something barely noticeable but noticeable at the same time. Yes, my doctor does hate me!

We started with the botox which never really bothers me anymore and especially with the numbing cream is hardly noticeable. I must explain I hate needles…I do this because I am a little vain and getting very close to being 40 and want to do as much as I can to stay young. After the botox came the lip fillers.

Did the lip fillers hurt? Not at all. Again, I did numb my entire face! I think I actually used a little too much numbing cream because at one point I had swallowed some and could not feel my throat. Funny yet a little scary.

The lip fillers were over really fast and when I looked in the mirror there was no bruising or swelling and truly not a big difference at all just as I asked. My doctor is wonderful! So I left ecstatic and so relieved. I even called my friend and suggested she try it. It was all happy times until I woke up the next day!

OMG! That is the perfect way to describe what happened when I woke up. My lips were deformed. By deformed I mean they were twice their normal size and not even. One side was twice as big as the other and they were swollen and looked horrible! I looked like a duck and not a cute duck either. I was regretting the lip injections with every glance I took in the mirror.

I immediately called my doctor, sent pictures and started to cry. I kept asking myself why I had done lip fillers in the first place and was completely devastated. Needless to say I had no plans of leaving my house until my lips looked normal again.

My doctor explained that this was normal and that it was simply swelling. He suggested I just leave them alone, maybe ice them and wait. He also explained the end look would be what I left with, that this was just swelling because our lips are extremely sensitive. So I dashed for the freezer and started to ice my lips every 5 minutes. I was still devastated but I started to look online and it seems that yes, the swelling is quite normal.

After about two hours of icing off and on, my lips did start to come down. Things were looking up! I was still not leaving the house, but I at least I saw the light at the end of the tunnel.By night my lips looked more normal, just a little swelling on one side. The next day they were normal and beautiful again. Needless to say this was a huge relief.

Why am I sharing this story? I am sharing my experience because I feel it is important for others to know the possible aftermath of lip fillers! Would I do them again….NO. It is simply not worth the risk to me. The idea that my lips could have remained deformed or drastically uneven is too much and not worth it. My lips are fine and although they are not plump and luscious like Angelina Jolie’s, that is OK, because they are mine and they are not duck lips!

If you want more plump lips, try using a bold lipstick instead! It is cheaper and simply safer….I will stick to my botox and skip the lip fillers next time I visit the doctor.
