Through the years my hair has changed dramatically. As I have adopted a more healthy hair approach, my hair has become less rebellious. Whereas I used to apply keratin treatments every three months or suffer the frizzy consequences; I am now able to delay treatments to every four to five months. Best of all, i do not even have to apply to my wntire hair anymore! I now stick to the roots, which is the area of my hair that gets the frizziest.
When it comes to keratin treatments, my all-time favorite has always been the Keratin Complex Express Blowout. I find this is the easiest treatment for at-home application. It requires fewer steps than the regular keratin treatment, therefore being much more user friendly for those non-professionals like myself. The only negative is, it does not last as long as the regular keratin treatment. The Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatment will last 4 – 5 months for most people. The Express Blowout will only last between 3 -4 (usually 3).
Application for the Express Boowout Smoothing Treatment is quite simple. All you need is a clarifying shampoo, the Express Blowout Treatments, a bowl, a fine toothed comb, and a color application brush. I have purchased a great application kit that makes this so easy, just follow this link!
I start by washing my hair with a clarifying shampoo. Keratin Complex makes a great clarifying shampoo for the best keratin results. Remember the clarifying shampoo helps to eliminate buildup in your hair and open up the hair folicle! Since I was only applying treatment to my roots, I focused on washing my roots with the clarifying shampoo. I wash two times to make sure to get the best results, that is also the suggested number for those with darker and coarse hair like myself.
DO NOT apply conditioner when applying keratin treatments, this will only seal the hair folicle and prevent absorbtion. However I did apply to my mid-lengths and ends as I was not applying treatment to these areas of my hair. I did leave root area free of any conditioner.
After washing I then towel dry my hair until its about 80% dry. I comb through my hair, using the Wet Brush, as it makes detangling conditioner free roots easier and less painful. Next I apply treatment to my root area and the area along my hair line. This is where I still get crazy frizz! You do NOT drench the hair, you simply apply enough to saturate the hair.
Next I sectioned my hair and dried as usual. Once I got to the roots and hairline where the keratin treatment was applied, I do like to use a smaller brush to help pull the roots nicely and maximize smoothness, and then followed that up with the flat iron. I pass the flat iron through the roots 4 – 6 times. ALL DONE!
The beauty of this root touch up is that it takes only 6 minutes more time that my usual blow dry! I love the results and it is so easy!!!
